MURAL
ARTIST STATEMENT:
A.R.T.’s goal for the Victorian Square mural is to further enhance and develop the local arts and culture scene by painting a mural that is both educational and positive in experience, and aesthetic by painting a mural of indigenous birds and insects. The process of painting is always a beautiful tradition that encourages everyone to watch, ask questions and participate in the process of bettering the community through art. His mural’s concepts embody the idea of growth and rebirth, as they either encompass the process of metamorphosis or painting the skies anew, believing that these murals will positively change the landscape of Victorian Square and attract people to visit.
ARTIST PROFILE:
Arthur Richmond, or A.R.T. by signature, was originally born in Long Beach, CA but raised mostly in Riverside, CA and Chicago, IL. He moved to Reno in 2002 to study at the University of Nevada, Reno and has since considered himself a local artist and muralist, spending most of his time working with nonprofits, painting murals both publicly and privately, and he has also been featured in several art galleries.
A.R.T. has taught art classes at local elementary and high schools, as well as the Juvenile Detention Center in Reno. He has painted murals for The City of Reno, Fireball Whiskey and many other public and private locations throughout Nevada. He participated in the Elko Mural Marathon in Elko, NV and was the 3rd Place Winner in the Mural Marathon at the Sierra Plumas County Fairgrounds in Quincy, CA in 2017. He was the honorary artist for the non-profit Boarding for Breast Cancer at the Mountain Dew Tour in Long Beach, CA in 2017 and has also done an artist-in-residency at the Discovery Museum in Reno. He has been featured in several art galleries, including Western Folklife Center in Elko, NV, The Sierra Arts Gallery and The Holland Project in Reno, and he has been a part of many group shows from Reno to San Francisco, CA.
